ACTIVITIES

Vaujany is the ideal destination both in winter and summer. With shops and local restaurants, the village also has a leisure centre allowing you to swim or take a relaxing sauna. Outside of the ski season, the area is well known for its excellent cycling opportunities, with the Tour de France passing close by at Alpe d'Huez, supplemented by organised road races (La Marmotte, La Vaujany) throughout the summer. The cable car runs throughout the winter season and reopens for the summer to provide access to the mountains for VTT, walkers and hikers. Close to other activity centres, the summer allows those with the need to get out and about with lots to do, from mountain biking, paragliding, canoeing, high-wiring to white water rafting.

Ski & Snowboard

Vaujany is a traditional Alpine village and one of the 6 resorts which comprise the world class Grandes Rousses/Alp D'Huez ski area (1250-3300m). With 249 kms of wonderful piste skiing and endless acres of off-piste powder, it is renowned for its sunshine as much as for its excellent snow record. As high as Val d'Isere, it hosts the longest black run in Europe as well as being an excellent place to learn.

Families

We fell in love with Vaujany in the summertime when  this special area offered our family with 4 kids the opportunity to get out and about, swimming in lakes, playing tennis, mountain biking, high wires at Kamikaze, taking a lazy canoe ride, walking in the hills, or just taking some time out  around the chalet. The village is so well set up it even runs activities for kids throughout the summer

Summer

For summertime in Vaujany, it's not uncommon for temperatures in the Alps to reach as high as 40C. The best way to cool down is to head to the lakes, either up in the mountains for a swim, or down to Lake Verney to canoe, charter a pedalo, windsurf or dive in from the rocks. Or, if you're feeling in need of invigouration, go white-water rafting, canyoning or hydrospeed.

Cycling

Vaujany and its surrounds has to be the best know area for road cycling in the whole of France. From the chalet, all the legendary climbs can be reached - Alpe d'Huez, Galibier, Col du Sabot, Col de la Croix de Fer. Beginning in June with  La Vaujany, which passes right in front of the chalet's terrace, followed by La Marmotte, starting the bottom of the hill, ending with the challenging Alpe d'Huez Triathlon in July.

Mountains

Vaujany is Surrounded by the most breathtaking of views, the mountains are easily accessed out of the front door, or better still up in the cable car, taking you as far as 3300m to Pic Blanc. One must do trip is the 20 minute walk up from the village to the stunning waterfall, Cascade de la Fare.

Restaurants

Although the chalet is fully set up for self-catering, this, after all, is France. With access to charming, out of the way, hillside restaurants, all within easy reach of Vaujany. Best of the pick are La Cure in Oz www.aubergelacure.com and Auberge Passoud  www.gite-passoud.com
